Born in 1978 and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Rob Has been playing music throughout his entire life. After moving through several different instruments, Rob discovered the electric bass in the seventh grade and subsequently the upright bass in the eleventh grade.
He went to McGill University in Montreal, studying with Daniel Lessard, Brian Hurley and current Principal Bass of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Brian Robinson. He completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance with High Distinction in 2001. He then got a full scholarship to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder and study a dual-concentration (Jazz and Classical) Master of Music degree. There he studied with Bass Soloist Dr. Paul Erhard and his degree was expertly guided by trumpeter/educator Dr. John Davis. Upon completion of his Master's degrees in December of 2004, he moved back to Montreal to pursue his career in music.
Almost as soon as he got back to Montreal, Rob started working for Toronto-based singer Sophie Milman, touring across Canada, the south-western United States and Japan. In April of 2006, Rob was approached to play bass for budding Montreal singing sensation Nikki Yanofsky. Since then, he has been behind her, playing bass, arranging, directing her band and being a part of her management team – A440 Entertainment, Inc. Through Nikki’s growing notoriety, Rob has been able to play at the Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Jamaica Jazz Festivals, The Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City. There is no end in sight for this project as Nikki continues to grow both musically and in the public eye.
